Nasab and names
The chain of fathers ("bin" and "binti"), kunya, laqab and nisba, Marhoom and Marhooma, and an interactive tree, fan chart and descendants view.
A family tree for Muslim families
A private home for your whole family: every relative in their place, nasab traced through the generations, elders' stories written down before they're lost, and those who have passed away remembered in du'a.
تَعَلَّمُوا مِنْ أَنْسَابِكُمْ مَا تَصِلُونَ بِهِ أَرْحَامَكُمْ
“Learn enough of your lineage to keep your ties of kinship.”
Our name comes from this hadith: ansab, lineages, and the reason to know them, keeping family close.
What's inside
Built first for one large family across Sri Lanka and abroad, and now opening to others.
The chain of fathers ("bin" and "binti"), kunya, laqab and nisba, Marhoom and Marhooma, and an interactive tree, fan chart and descendants view.
Every date shown in both calendars, and entered in either. Islamic milestones too: aqiqah, hifz, Hajj, Umrah, shahada.
Who is mahram to whom, by blood, by marriage and by milk kinship, worked out from the tree. Kafala is kept apart from lineage, as it should be.
An estimate of the fara'id shares from the relatives in the tree, and a draft Islamic will to take to a lawyer and a scholar.
A page for those who have passed away, with burial places, sadaqah jariyah in their name, and Qur'anic du'as for parents and the departed.
Relatives share stories of those they loved. Elders' profiles suggest questions to ask them, so their memories are written down while they're with us.
The family's huffaz, scholars and hujjaj in one place, a printable family book generation by generation, and the family in numbers.
Only the family you invite can see your tree. Photos can be limited to women and mahram relatives, and relatives can view without being able to edit.
Import from Ancestry and other sites (GEDCOM), or from the Sri Lanka Genealogy Website's family registers. Download it all again whenever you like.
How it works
Add yourself, your parents and grandparents, or import a tree you already have.
Share a link on the family WhatsApp group. Each person finds themselves in the tree, and every page shows them how they're related.
Relatives suggest corrections, add photos and memories, and answer the elders' questions, while editors keep it accurate.
Our first families
Moor, Malay and Memon families whose relatives are now spread from Colombo and Kandy to London, Dubai, Melbourne and Toronto. The pilot is small and personal: we'll help you set up your tree and listen to what your family needs.
وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالْأَرْحَامَ
“Be mindful of Allah, in whose name you ask of one another, and of the ties of kinship.”

We're opening Al-Ansab to a small number of families first. Tell us a little about yours and we'll be in touch.
A note on the Islamic tools. The mahram finder, inheritance estimate and will draft follow established rulings and the relatives recorded in your tree. They are guidance to help families plan, not fatwas. Please confirm inheritance shares, mahram questions and wills with a qualified scholar, and have a will formalised by a lawyer.
